US military doublespeak?
The US military has released its findings from Guantanamo Bay. The BBC's writeup is here. I find it interesting that they found that "there were no cases of torture or inhumane treatment," but there were cases of duct tape, pranks on prisoners, cold, heat, sleep deprivation, and loud music, and one isolated instance where a prisoner was chained to the floor in the fetal position.
Pay attention to your PR, kids. Breathe your sigh of relief that there hasn't been torture on our isolated island prison, but exactly how do we classify duct tape, pranks on prisoners, cold, heat, sleep deprivation, loud music, and one isolated instance where a prisoner was chained to the floor in the fetal position?
