Gross Goss
Finally, months after George Tennet resigned from his post as CIA director, George decides to appoint U.S. Representative Porter Goss. This guy seems to be the right man for the job. He's been in politics for a while, and served the government for quite some time before then.
From 1960-1971, Porter served in the CIA. More specifically, he served in the Clandestine Services in the CIA.
What exactly is this?

All right, so there's the modern definition. It's all about terrorism. What a shock. Everyone thinks about terrorism all the time, because it's everywhere. I mean, I am being terrorized right now by the fact that I don't remember how to upload images to Blogger. BLOGGER IS TERRORIZING ME! ::breathes:: anyway.
So this Porter fellow was involved in the CIA Clandestine Service for more than a decade of the Cold War. Now, naturally alarm bells are going off in my head for that very reason. He worked in the CIA during the COLD WAR! This is when they killed leaders all the time for simply being Communist. These are the same people that removed leaders in Iran and Guatemala simply because they had Communist ties. This already smells foul.
Bush says: "He knows the CIA inside and out. He is the right man to lead this important agency at this critical moment in our nation's history."
Yeah, that's true. He does know the CIA inside and out. He's probably been involved in all SORTS of nasty decisions that we don't want to think about. Who lives? Who dies? And apparently, he has had some clashes with ex-director Tennet.

In June, Goss' committee attached a scathing report to an intelligence appropriations bill passed by the House. The report called the CIA's human intelligence gathering apparatus "dysfunctional" and adverse to change, and charged that its intelligence analysts were timid and lacked proper focus.
Naturally, Tenet got pissed off. He called the accusations false and threw eggs on Porter's car. Well...maybe not. But anyway, this keeps getting worse

As Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Porter was at the center of events in the Congressional investigation surrounding the September 11th terror attacks, spearheading the investigation on possible intelligence-gathering failures prior to the attacks.
So, not only does this man have ties to the 9/11 investigation, but he's now going to be one of Bush's right hand men. Dude, no way. He's got too much of a bias. His agenda is already set. He's probably convinced that the only way to deal with these "terrorists" is to kill them all of. It's the only way he knows how to work. That's all they did back in the 60's. We're talking some pretty immense corruption that lied within the Intelligence Community in America. We accuse the KGB (our counterparts in the Soviet Union) of being brutal. I am truly not so sure we were that much more merciful. We financed rebels to kill their leaders so Communism wouldn't spread. I mean, we financed Osama when he fought the Soviets in Afghanistan in the late 1970's. Granted, at this point Porter was not directly involved, but don't assume for a minute that we got nicer and cleaner right after 1969 came and went.
Like I said before, Porter Goss COULD be a fine candidate for the position, but there are already questions that I have found in the past hour that make me wonder. Is this the case? Should we question it? You bet. This guy is going to be handling our intelligence that enters a new era. I want to know everything about this guy, good and bad. And if Bush is that eccsatic about this fellow, I strongly question Porter already. I don't like MOST ALL of Bush's people. And I know Bush didn't pick the guy. It was handpicked by his administration (a.k.a. Ashcroft, Cheney, Rove, Rumsfeld). Talk about not trusting those guys.
Some more information on this character: Both he and Bush are completely behind the recommendation of the 9/11 commission...with the exception of one part. Goss wants full budget authority for the national intelligence director post that the commission wants in place. Bush wants it to be limited to what the White House wants. Sounds to me like Bush wants to make sure he has the final say in what we find out and what we do. Heaven forbid they come across some actual information we can use
